The first weeks of the Trump Administration have seen a virtually non-stop attack on immigrants and refugees -- with the Muslim ban, a massive increase in the staggering number of ICE raids and deportations, and an executive order to "build the wall" on the already militarized US-Mexico border.

However, the attacks from the Trump administration are only part of the story. The first hours of the Muslim ban saw thousands of people rally and occupy airports in dozens of cities, including Columbus. Anti-immigrant repression in Milwaukee provoked a Day Without an Immigrant strike, where as many as 50,000 immigrants joined a walkout. Activists in a host of cities have formed emergency response networks to mobilize and resist attempted deportations, while demands to make cities and campuses a sanctuary for undocumented immigrants have become commonplace.

Join us for a discussion on the recent attacks on immigrants and refugees and the growing resistance. We will examine how the US has played a key role in the destabilization of the seven countries included in Trump’s racist Muslim Ban and the mass profit that is made off private deportation centers.

Taking a historical approach to borders, anti-immigrant racism, and Islamophobia, we will also discuss the role each has played under capitalism and how we can fight them.
