Only Congress can determine when and if our country goes to war. By circumventing the Constitution and acting unilaterally, Trump is taking away citizens' rights to make our voices heard to our representatives. When the people's voices are silenced, our democracy is stifled. We cannot stumble into an illegal war due to the President's impulsive and ever-changing policy positions. Sen. Kaine recently released a statement on Trump's strike in Syria, calling Trump's failure to seek Congressional approval, "unlawful." He has further stated that there are "1.6 million families...who have a kid in the military...You can’t put people into harm’s way without a political consensus." We will be thanking Sen. Kaine for standing up for the people and the Constitution and urging Sen. Warner and Rep. Garrett to do the same.
