Our Florida chapter will move into ACTION by standing with our partners to support the HELEN GORDON DAVIS FAIR PAY PROTECTION ACT (Florida HB 319/SB 410).
We applaud our leaders at our state capitol for introducing and sponsoring these bills: Representatives Berman (D-Palm Beach, HD 90), Cruz (D- Hillsborough, HD 62), Abruzzo (D- Palm Beach, SD 81), Baez (D- Miami Dade, HD 114), Davis (D- Duval, HD 13), Geller (D- Broward and Miami Dade, HD 100), Mercado (D- Orange, HD 48) and Senator Stewart (D-Orange, SD 13).
This bill prohibits employers from discrimination towards employees based on their sex or gender identity, and specifies which factors employers can use to decide to pay employees differently, like education level, experience, seniority, or merit. It prohibits employers from screening job applicants based on prior wages, and bars employers from taking retaliatory action against an employee who discloses their wages to a coworker or inquires about another employees’ wages.
