Join the Graduate School of Social Work for a "fireside chat" on community organizing & social change in the 21st century. GSSW's Dean McBride will lead an interactive discussion with acclaimed community organizer and co-chair of the Industrial Areas Foundation, Ernesto "Ernie" Cortes.

Ernesto Cortés, Jr. is the Industrial Areas Foundation (IAF) co-chair and executive director of the West / Southwest IAF regional network. The IAF provides leadership training and civics education to poor and moderate-income people across the US and UK. Cortés has been instrumental in the building of over 30 grassroots organizations known for developing and training community leaders.

Amanda Moore McBride, PhD is the Morris Endowed Dean and Professor of the Graduate School of Social Work (GSSW) at the University of Denver (DU). McBride is an internationally recognized expert in civic engagement, and is a leader in the field of community engagement in higher education specifically. McBride joined DU in summer 2016 after being affiliated with Washington University in St. Louis for 23 years where she was the Bettie Bofinger Brown Associate Professor at the George Warren Brown School of Social Work and executive director of the Gephardt Institute for Civic and Community Engagement, leading Washington University’s engagement in the St. Louis region.
