International Workers Day, also known as May Day, is the only holiday that is truly a celebration of the working class. It was established in 1891 to commemorate the Haymarket riot where Chicago police attacked protesters fighting against the capitalists of the time for an 8 hour work day.
Today we see similar struggles among working class people, as we fight to increase the minimum wage and against laws that continue decades of union busting in america. The current U.S. regime has positioned itself against the interests of working class people in the U.S. and abroad; it is important that we stand against them organized and ready to fight.
We must remember that there is not one person that we can elect to save us, but by our collective efforts we can change the world.
