Fifty years ago we were using about 70% or Earth's annual capacity each year. In the 1980s we passsed 100%, and now we are using about 150% of Earth's capacity each year (PNAS 2002). Where is the extra 50% coming from? Our children. We are leaving the next generations a less resilient Earth with changed ecosystems and limited biodiversity; we are causing change that is making Earth increasingly inhospitable and hostile to humanity. We must let our electred officials know that we need to change the way we use resources towards more sustainable practices. People around the globe will be rallying on Saturday April 29th to bring attention to climate change and some of us in Billings are itching to join the movement. It will be simple, 30 minutes of rallying on the street with your thoughtful signs -I will bring a few extra-, so don't be late! We must make this an issue that can't be ignored or put aside. Come join us. Let's enjoy our beautiful planet but in a thoughtful way, not at the expense of our children. The least we can tell future generations is that we tried.
