Are you new to activism but want to get involved? Do you have experience in activism but want to build further on your efforts?
Direct action is an important tool in building a movement that will actually win. From suffragettes and sit-down strikes, to the civil rights movement, to ActUp and Occupy, direct actions have helped propel social movements to success.
This training is provided by Michigan People's Campaign and will focus on how to create and conduct effective direct actions, safely and peacefully, in support of making change.
Topics covered include:
-Building an "arc of escalation"
-important roles within an action
-legal and safety considerations
-how to prepare for actions and choose targets
-what to do if you actually win!
A practice event will also take place.
This event is free.
