With the national government in chaos and state government deadlocked, building local movements to address our critical challenges has never been more important. This gathering, bringing together some of the most dynamic local movement organizers in Seattle, will take place May 6, 2017 1-5pm, at All Pilgrims Church, 500 Broadway E, on Capitol Hill.
The Community Power Summit aims to connect people looking for engagement opportunities with leading local activist groups working on some of the most crucial issues facing Seattle, our nation and the world.
Facing oppressions that are global and national in scope, the place to build the power of people is where we live. We, as groups devoted to mobilizing for climate and social justice on a local scale in Seattle, believe now is the time to join together to press forward for transformational change. This is not the time to huddle in a defensive crouch, but instead to regard the critical national situation as a call to rise for the kind of changes we want in our community and in society in general. It is the time to join the broad popular forces that have emerged and are emerging, for justice and sustainability, and to create unified, place-based movements that build the power we need to transform our communities, our nation and our world.
Let’s take our country back, beginning right here where we live. Come out to the Community Power Summit May 6 to learn how.
