On Tuesday September 5th, we await Mr. Trump’s decision on the fate of DACA. Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) provides young immigrants who arrived in the US during childhood without legal documentation the opportunity to enter the legal work force, obtain a driver's license and protection from deportation. It is a bare-bones policy of human decency. DACA was made possible thanks to the brave resistance of undocumented immigrants. Today, as DACA is under attack by the Trump administration, we must continue this legacy of resistance in fighting for what is right. Over 800,000 young undocumented immigrants are at risk of losing DACA status and are facing deportation from their own country, following lawsuits by Texas Attorney General Paxton and other White supremacists.
Join NYU Dream Team, NYU Sanctuary, and NYU Asian Pacific American Coalition for a peaceful demonstration of solidarity for DACA recipients and undocumented immigrants in our community. As September 5th marks the first day of classes, we must show that we as a community welcome everyone here at NYU, regardless of their national origin and documentation status. We encourage the presidential and the NYU administrations to be proactive in defending DACA recipients and undocumented immigrants. Come out make known to the public that all undocumented individuals are loved and protected here at NYU.
