In this training we will get a greater sense of what makes for powerful actions as white people working for racial justice, and we build more confidence planning and carrying out civil disobedience. During this training, we will use our new (or more honed!) skills and collaborate on possible future actions through SURJ Memphis.
Folks new to direct action welcome and encouraged to attend, as well as more experienced activists.
Facilitated by Andrew Willis Garcés. Garcés is a regional resource person with SURJ, and has been helping SURJ chapters pull off direct actions in Wisconsin and other states. He learned about the value of using high-risk actions working with labor, antiwar, tenant and immigrant-led movement organizations.
Lunch will be provided by SURJ.
