Join us for a discussion on escalating state repression and help us raise legal funds for our local friends and J20 defendants. Nearly 200 people (including 8 from Michigan and 4 from Ypsilanti) are facing 75 years in prison for protesting Trump on inauguration day. The only evidence against them was their mass arrest. They were never told to disperse, but were kettled, projectile pepper sprayed, and hoarded into police vans. $100,000 in property damage (broken windows) is cited as the reason for their arrest and the DC Metro police are attempting to make the case that everyone in the square block of L and 12 is responsible. The J20 defendants are refusing to take a plea deal though, because they don’t want the charges they are facing to be normalized for all future protestors.
