Enough! National School Walkout 2018 - Seacoast, New Hampshire

I'm creating this event for the Seacoast of NH, based off of a National event that is happening on March 14th (info below), but a little different than the national one. 

It is illegal for teachers to strike in NH, and I know many of them want to. So, I'm calling for all students, teachers, school administrators, parents and allies in the Seacoast of NH to do one of the following options on March 14th at 10am to either support the National movement or to help the teachers who want to strike, but cannot: 

Option One
Walk out of school at 10am. Anyone who supports the cause, meet up at Market Square in Portsmouth at 1pm. 

Option Two
Walk out of school at 10am and return back to school 17 minutes later, in solidarity with the national movement. 

The 1pm in Market Square is to fill it with students and families and help send our elected representatives a message. 

I also understand that keeping children home from school simply isn't an option for everyone. If any parent or student would like to be represented in Market Square, but cannot be there, please send any signs/pictures/messages to me and I will be sure to distribute them amongst whoever is there. You can email me directly at kathleencavalaro@gmail.com if you want to hand deliver any signs, etc. and we can arrange a drop off.

Women’s March Youth EMPOWER is calling for students, teachers, school administrators, parents and allies to take part in a #NationalSchoolWalkoutfor 17 minutes at 10am across every time zone on March 14, 2018 to protest Congress’ inaction to do more than tweet thoughts and prayers in response to the gun violence plaguing our schools and neighborhoods. We need action. Students and allies are organizing the national school walkout to demand Congress pass legislation to keep us safe from gun violence at our schools, on our streets and in our homes and places of worship.

Students and staff have the right to teach and learn in an environment free from the worry of being gunned down in their classrooms or on their way home from school.

Parents have the right to send their kids to school in the mornings and see them home alive at the end of the day.

We are not safe at school. We are not safe in our cities and towns. Congress must take meaningful action to keep us safe and pass federal gun reform legislation that address the public health crisis of gun violence. We want Congress to pay attention and take note: many of us will vote this November and many others will join in 2020. `
