Around the world, May 1 is known as International Workers’ Day, Labour Day and May Day. Before the protest actions planned this year, we’re hosting a panel discussion on the case for a strike.
International Workers Day, was established in the U.S. by union workers fighting for an eight-hour work day. While May Day is celebrated all around the world, this day was not known to most in the U.S. until 2006, when the immigrants' rights movement declared May 1 "A Day Without an Immigrant.” On May 1, 2006, millions across the U.S. marched to protest the Sensenbrenner bill, successfully defeating this anti-immigrant effort.
As the Trump administration ramps up their attacks against immigrants, labor and immigrants’ rights groups are again declaring this year's May Day "A Day Without an Immigrant.”
Join SF United Against Trump along with speakers from unions and immigrants’ rights groups for a public forum on why everyone should "strike" on May Day.
An injury to one is an injury to all!
