Join a coalition of organizations in front of the U.S. Attorney's Office to be in solidarity with Jane Doe and demand that our government respect the human right of EVERY person to access a full spectrum of health care, including abortion. The routine denial of care to people in immigration detention facilities, jails and prisons is unconscionable and has a profound impact on our communities.
Jane Doe is a 17-year-old unaccompanied immigrant minor currently detained in south Texas who was pregnant when she was put into legal custody of the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR). Jane obtained a judicial bypass order with the help of Jane's Due Process that allowed her to consent to her own abortion. However, for over four weeks, ORR refused to release Jane to obtain the care she needed and forced her to undergo anti-abortion “counseling” from so-called Crisis Pregnancy Centers (CPCs). The unconstitutional actions of the federal government, backed by Texas' Attorney General, delayed Jane’s access to abortion care far past the time when she could have had safer, less intrusive procedures.
After filing a lawsuit with the help of the American Civil Liberties Union that was appealed all the way to the DC Court of Appeals, Jane Doe was finally able to obtain her abortion! Let's celebrate this victory and come together in the fight for reproductive, migrant, and racial justice.
