March Mass Meeting

St. Mark Hope and Peace Lutheran

March 20, 2017,
7:00 pm to 8:30 pm

In this moment of history, people are showing up in large numbers, some for the first time ever. But WHY are they showing up? Why are WE showing up? What's motivating us to act in this work, and are we clear how that motivation affects how we show up?

While we may understand part of our own motivation (in organizing we call this "self-interest"), we often have subconscious motivations as well. In multi-racial movement organizing, we must work to show up in mutual interest with People of Color led organizations, while being clear about our own self interest. This is how move toward collective liberation.

“If you have come here to help me, you are wasting your time.
But if you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together.”
Lilla Watson

Join us at the SURJ mass meeting on March 20th at 7PM (location TBA) to examine your own self interest in coming to this work and to develop strategies towards a mutual self interest in collective liberation. We'll have a SURJ 101 session at 6:30PM for new attendees, and we're working to secure childcare.

Hope to see you there!
