The Livingston County Republican Party is holding their semi-annual dinner fundraiser, and this year fringe right wing ex-Sheriff David Clarke is the keynote. Anybody who is anyone in local Republican politics will be at this dinner, possibly including our 8th Dist. Rep. Mike Bishop.
Indivisible Livingston is sponsoring a coordinated PEACEFUL demonstration against local Republican party operatives who wrongfully believe Clarke's extreme stance on law enforcement, racial justice, and immigration issues mirror the values of our community. Over 300,000 Wisconsin residents protested ex-Milwaukee Sheriff Clarke last spring to speak out against mass deportation, inhumane treatment of pregnant and mentally ill prisoners, and his pro-mass incarceration views. In 2013, Clarke was named 'Sheriff of the Year' by the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association, a group he belongs to that believes, among other disturbing viewpoints, that the county sheriff is the supreme law enforcement entity of the United States above federal and state law.
We will take a stand alongside our neighbors in and around District 8 to demonstrate to Republican leadership that Clarke's values are not our local values, nor those of the nation as a whole. We are there to show we will peacefully #resist any action that seeks to normalize and capitalize off of fringe ideaology such as those touted by Ex Sheriff Clarke for political gain.
