The forces that work against long-term sustainable racial healing and reconciliation in our nation have been active for a very long time. This is also true regarding wimmin’s rights, LBGTQ rights, the rights of immigrants, climate justice, and more. Considering the racist, sexist, homophobic, and xenophobic statements from the president-elect and his supporters, it appears that these forces will be more active than ever. In the uncertain times ahead, we are re-committing ourselves to voting with our bodies, taking to the streets, and removing our cooperation with injustice. In anticipation of this calling, an ad hoc group of folks from a wide variety of groups has begun to consider the tools and resources ourcommunity might need as we resist the powers that threaten to harm and destroy our communities, our rights, and our beloved planet.
One tool we hope will be of service is a training in preparation for nonviolent direct action. This is a time for individuals and groups to consider and deepen their understanding of nonviolence and resistance to injustice in the form of direct action or civil resistance. If you anticipate being in the streets in any form in the upcoming months, this training will help you think about and give you some tools to work with expected and unexpected events.
