ICPJ and the Meta Peace Team (MPT) are partnering to develop a Peace Team of Washtenaw County.
In a time when some people could turn to a militarized police department, deployed in riot gear with tear gas, tasers, batons, and automatic weapons, many are turning to the tried-and-true methods of nonviolence. Assertive, active nonviolence has been proven effective. Meta Peace Team (formally Michigan Peace Team) has been placing violence reduction peace teams both within the US and internationally for 24 years.
This 8 hr training will teach you specific skills & tools that are useful both in conflict intervention situations and in daily life (such as Active Listening, Personal Power-messages, and the CLARA technique). You will be introduced to tools for group work (Affinity teams and consensus decision making) and to the concept of “peace teams” or third-party nonviolent intervention (TPNI) and its scope of possibilities.
A great follow up and review and practice to ICPJ's 4 hour Basic Bystander Intervention Training.
Once you have completed this training, you are now eligible and can choose to be on MPT's "on call" list for domestic peace teams anywhere in the US and/or just locally for the Peace Team of Washtenaw County.
