On November 7th, as required every 20 years, New Yorkers will vote on whether to hold a constitutional convention. The NYCLU firmly opposes the constitutional convention.
A convention promises to be business as usual, but your state constitutional rights and protections would become political bargaining chips. With the threat to civil liberties from the Trump administration, that's a risk we can't take.
While many New Yorkers believe the convention would be a chance for reform, the process is rigged to favor the interests of the powerful. That's because delegates will be elected through gerrymandered districts drawn to limit the People's power.
