The GOP's new ACA/Obamacare replacement plan is out, potentially headed for passage, and BAD NEWS for the poorest and sickest Americans.
The American Health Care Act (AHCA) removes the funding mechanisms found in the ACA, and instead pays for the plan by "decimating Medicaid", according to Nicole Jorwic at ARC of the United States.
These Medicaid "enhancements"- as they are called in the bill-put disabled people, seniors, and those in poverty at risk of funding cuts, loss of care, greater illness, and death. A Harvard study in 2012 found that thousands of people are already dying every year in states that haven't expanded Medicaid-- and so ending the expansion nationwide, cutting Medicaid funds through "per capita caps", and repealing other aspects of the ACA will put an unknown number of lives at risk.
It is rumored that House republicans hope to hold a floor vote on March 23, 2017-- the 7th anniversary of the signing of the Affordable Care Act.
Join us on that symbolic day to stand up for vulnerable patients, and to defend Medicaid and healthcare for all!
