It's been over 7 days since hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico and the island is desperate for help. Things are getting worse. Over 3 million Puerto Ricans are without power. It could take 6 months to get power restored. 1.5 million are without running water. There is no communication on the island either.

The help from the federal government has been slow. The Mayor of SanJuan has been making desperate pleas for ground support. Currently there are 7k Fema workers in Puerto Rico. Florida had over 40k.

This is a humanitarian crisis. People are running out of food and water. Puerto Ricans are having to walk miles just to get three gallons of gas. 58 out 69 hospitals don't have power due to a shortage of diesel fuel. Hospitals are becoming death traps.

The viability of the devestation has been slow. Puerto Rico hasn't been getting the coverage like with Harvey and Irma. The island is crippled. There isn't one aspect of the island that's not had some sort of destruction from infrastructure to houses. Puerto Rico needs long term help. Millions will be displaced either to their homes being destroyed or not having access to power and water for an extended period of time.

More people need to be aware of the dire situation in Puerto Rico. We need to continue to hold our elected officials accountable in giving Puerto Rico the help they need to recover and rebuild.

A lot of people don't even know that Puerto Ricans are US citizens. We need to take care of our fellow Americans. They're counting on us.

Please consider making a donation to a Puerto Rico relief fund started by the first Lady of Puerto Rico. The funds raised will go directly to disaster relief efforts.
