On November 16th, Jackie Walorski voted for a tax reform bill that would exacerbate income inequality in Indiana. From 1979 to 2007, the top 1% of Hoosiers experienced income growth at 115.3%, while the bottom 99% only experienced it at 12.6%. The top 1% of Hoosiers have captured almost half of the income growth across the last three decades. According to the Tax Policy Center, half of the benefits of the House bill will go to the top 1 percent by 2027, which will allow the trajectory to continue whereby the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. This tax reform bill passed the House, and now a different version is being considered in the Senate. Both of the Republican tax reform bills would benefit the wealthy permanently, while benefits for lower and middle income families become less generous with time. The purpose of this rally is to express our disapproval of Jackie Walorski's vote to help the special interests at the expense of her constituents. We also want to urge Senators Donnelly and Young to vote against the disastrous tax reform bill in the Senate. Our collective voices for economic justice in this nation will be heard.
