Donald Trump wants to increase the pentagon budget by $54 billion dollars. This will come at the expense of the EPA, State Department, foreign aid, domestic infrastructure, social programs, and more!
Over half of US federal discretionary spending already goes to our military which uses war to expand US power and control over scarce global resources. Trump’s proposed 10% increase will make the military budget over 60 percent! Small fractions of this proposed military budget could instead be used to provide clean drinking water, free top-quality education from pre-school through college, end hunger, convert the U.S. to clean energy, build fast trains between all major U.S. cities, and double U.S. humanitarian assistance to poor countries. Since September 11, the US led ‘global war on terror’ has led to the killing of more than 4 million civilians in the Middle East while the military industrial complex has made billions of dollars in profits. A $54 billion increase will not make us safer. It will costs us gravely.
