Last week we won a victory in our fight to stop Jose Luis Sanchez-Ronquillo's deportation when a judge in Detroit put a temporary stay on his deportation so that the Board of Immigration Appeals could hear motions later this month to reopen the case.
Now the government is submitting a motion to deport Jose Luis on next Wednesday, before those motions can be heard.
It is cruel and vindictive for the government to try to rush through Jose Luis' deportation without letting him and his family have their case considered by the BIA.
Deporting Jose Luis Sanchez-Ronquillo would serve no purpose other than to devastate his family and deprive Ann Arbor of a loved and trusted community member.
With the family's blessing, our community will come together at the courthouse before and during the hearing of the government's motion to deport Jose Luis.
Bring your signs and your love and support for the Sanchez-Ronquillo family as we try to hold on to another of our immigrant community members.
