In December 2016, TX-HHSC leadership directed staff to remove from a children's mental health grant proposal language that would have included cultural responsiveness training for Texas mental health community staff on the unique needs (and strengths) of LGBTQIA youth and families. Their reason? The AG's stance on the "bathroom bill".
As a result of this, and other policies that hamstring state staff's ability to help LGBTQIA youth and families in need of emotional support. The ultimate result, the deaths by suicide, are immeasurable because the agency has proven they care more about politics than our lives.
Join us on April 28th to tell HHSC what you think about this decision. Come to protest. Come to give public comment during the meeting. Come in support. Thank you!
