~ Standing Up for Racial Justice in Times of Fear & Hatred ~
Not many of us know what to say or do when we witness racial injustice or when discriminatory incidents occur. Today, we are bombarded with daily news about hate crimes or violent acts towards those that we have been taught to fear. Once again, we are being called upon to stand up and be counted against such injustice. It is facilitator Lee Mun Wah’s belief that every time we stay silent in the face of injustice, someone always pays a price. That price can take the form of the oppressed emotionally withdrawing from relationships or connections with others, doubting their reality, hurting themselves or others physically, expressing rage, shooting someone, dropping out of school or work… and, the list goes on.
In this workshop, we will discover ways of more effectively supporting one another and finding ways to truly be an ally during these troubled times. By way of personal stories and exercises, we will learn to model what it takes to build authentic and meaningful cross-cultural relationships with those who are different from ourselves… relationships with a foundation that are based on trust, genuine curiosity, understanding and respect.
