The Tax Day March will begin at Crocker Park at 11:00am. The march will consist of concerned individuals who willl march one mile to the State Capitol where we will call for President Trump to release his tax returns. We will be shouting out some new chants and, if it wasn't so serious, it would be a whole lot of fun! The ending time is officially 5pm but the actual ending time may be different.
What is the Tax March?
The Tax March isn't an organization--it's a movement--gaining momentum around the country. Early in the 2016 presidential campaign, Donald Trump told the American people he would release his tax returns, as every other Presidential candidate running and every American President since President Nixon had done. Despite intense public pressure, President Donald Trump has not yet done so. In refusing to release these tax returns, he is able to obscure his business dealings, financial ties and conflicts of interest.
Within days of his inauguration, the White House petition calling on Trump to release his tax returns garnered the most signatures on a White House petition, ever. The Trump administration's response? "People don't care."
A Tax Day March: A Tax March and demonstration will be held on April 15th. More than 50 regional marches will concurrently take place throughout the country. We all are affiliated with the National Tax March but are autonomous and reflect the diverse, organic nature of this movement. Tens of thousands of Americans will send a clear message to Donald Trump: The President is accountable to the American people, and we’re going to hold him accountable--and yes, we care.
Why a Tax March? Fair is Fair: This is not just about his tax returns. President Trump needs to be straight with the American people. To whom does he owe favors? Who are his policies really intended to benefit? Who will he put first? Working families are struggling to make ends meet, but we pay our taxes--does Donald Trump pay any at all? Many in the middle of California voted for President Trump and he made some really big promises. One of the small ones was to show us his taxes. Why the delay? What does he have to hide? What does he not want us to know? Why won’t he show us his taxes? The American people deserve to know the answers to these questions.
Corruption: Corruption is despicable in a democracy. We deserve to know whether Donald Trump is allowing foreign officials and the superrich to buy the power of the Presidency. We would ask that our President put the country and the American people first. We will not stand for our President using the country to enrich himself, his family, his friends, and his donors. We will not let President Trump put his own bottom line ahead of the interests of hardworking Americans.
American Values: We, the American people, will stand together to insist on the central role of our judiciary and Constitution, of government transparency, of fact-based debate and of fairness in taxation. We will form a red, white and blue line against any powers whether corporate, political, or purely tyrannical, who seek to undermine these precious American values.
Who is organizing it? We are ordinary Americans: students, community organizers, progressives, republicans, democrats, libertarians, greens, and people from all walks of life and all backgrounds. We are joining together in a non-partisan way to raise our voices and send a bold message to this administration: We will not go quietly into the night. We will not turn away. We care, and we will hold President Trump, his administration, and Congress accountable. That means demanding transparency, and demanding that as we pay our fair share in taxes, the wealthy--especially our president--do the same.
Democrats, Republicans, Progressives, Conservatives, Tea Partiers - Join us at the California State Capitol and say NO to hate, NO to divisiveness and TRUMP--SHOW US YOUR TAXES!!!
