California has the highest child poverty rate in the nation. So John Lewis, Karen Bass and Nancy Pelosi are coming to do a rally. Guess which one of the three has not signed onto John Conyers single payer health care bill which he's been introducing for 14 years? A bill which would help poor children have health care.
And guess who said on TV: “I wanted single payer-- I mean, I'd love a single payer, but we’re not there. I wanted a public option, which would address that,” Pelosi responded, adding that Democrats want to improve the health care law, while Republicans want to repeal it.
Well, a public option would not address anything. It holds health care hostage to private corporations, who make money denying care. We have to make sure we go straight to a singer payer Medicare for All system like every other advanced country that treats health care as a human right.
We will not disrupt this event. But we will all hold signs that say Single Payer Now or Co-sponser Conyers Bill or Medicare for All Now. And maybe we can do some chants at an appropriate time.
