Trans* Community Project (TCP) Presents the 3rd Annual Transgender Day of Visibility will be held on Friday, March 31st, 2017 from 5:00-7:00pm at the Annenberg Center for Health Sciences at Eisenhower Medical Center at 39000 Bob Hope Dr, in Rancho Mirage. The annual event is organized to show support, raise awareness and celebrate the Transgender Community.
Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV) will include an drop-in open house, followed by a program consisting of guest speakers and entertainment, and time to meet up with others at the end. According to Trans Student Educational Resources (TSER), this year’s theme is #TransResistance. In the increasing transphobic global political climate, we must used our newfound visibility to mobilize trans people against oppression.
Guest Speakers as of 3/9 are:
Kate Kendell - NCLR
Lisa Middleton - Community Activist
Michael Hochburg - Activist
Rachel Crandall - TDOV Founder (Via Skype)
and more...
TCP organizers are working in collaboration with Eisenhower Medical Center, Trans Role Models and media sponsors Gay Desert Guide, and support from various community organizations such as The LGBT Community Center of The Desert, Human Rights Campaign, Greater Palm Springs Pride and many more.
In 2009, Michigan Trans Activist Rachel Crandall established March 31st as International Transgender Day of Visibility, a day of observance to acknowledge and celebrate the successes of the Transgender Community. TDOV aims to bring attention to the accomplishments of Trans People around the globe while fighting transphobia by spreading knowledge of the Trans Community. Unlike Transgender Day of Remembrance, this is not a day of mourning, this is a day of empowerment and recognition.
