This is the first day of a week-long United Nations session to begin negotiations on a “legally binding instrument to prohibit nuclear weapons, leading towards their total elimination.” Last October, the First Committee of the UN General Assembly adopted the resolution for these talks 123 Yes, 38 No (including the U.S. and allies), and 16 Abstain.
