Trump has created an immense sense of fear and uncertainty in our immigrant and refugee communities, and, in many communities across Texas.
Texas has been and will continue to be ground zero for anti-immigrant, xenophobic rhetoric that is evident in the 2017 legislative priorities of State leaders. We have seen the introduction of legislation that includes, among others: allowing local law enforcement officers to ask for immigration status through the elimination of so-called "sanctuary cities;” repeal of in-state tuition for undocumented students; special marking of driver licences and IDs for refugees and anyone with a visa; a constitutional amendment denying bail to undocumented persons; require the use of E-Verify for all state contractors; harsher punishments for undocumented felons; and, an anti-Immigrant Omnibus that makes local governments liable for damages caused by undocumented persons, mandates the use of PEP; prohibits the use of the Matricula Consular, and prohibits local policies against immigration enforcement.
Join RITA in a movement to stop the hate, xenophobia, and nativism from taking a hold in Texas.
