In solidarity with the general strike that is taking place across the country on Friday, Feb 17th, we are planning a community strike in West Philly. We have been overwhelmed and encouraged by the turnout to rallies and marches in center city in response to the decisions of our political administration but we feel like traveling to center city can present a barrier to members of our community. We would love to create an event that empowers members of our community (particularly those who have not historically been welcomed in political circles) to take part in an event that will give them space to express their feelings about this administration and that celebrates the diversity in our community.
The plan is for local businesses, community organizations, and residents to go on strike from 12:00 - 2:00PM (if you can) and then rally in Clark Park from 12:30 - 1:30. We truly want this to be an uplifting, peaceful community event and would love for each as many residents as possible to attend.
We understand that some may not be able to attend due to work/schedule conflicts and ask that you please tell friends who ARE available to attend and spread the word to others in the neighborhood! Additionally, if you have any resources or guidance that would be helpful in planning this event We would greatly appreciate them! I'm looking forward to coming together!
