March 8, 2017,
7:45 pm to 9:00 pm

In honor of March 8th, International Women's Day, Women's March Florida in conjunction with Women's March on Washington and National Women's Liberation will be hosting a Women's Strike (A Day Without A Woman) acting together to defend equity, justice and continue the fight for women's rights and the end of violence and oppression of ALL women and gender non-conforming groups.

On the evening of the Women's Strike, and immediatley following the protest march organized by International Women's Strike Miami's Femmes Day of Resistence, Women's March Miami-Dade will be hosting a vigil to honor ALL women and gender non-conforming groups around the world who have been subject to: 1) hate crimes, 2) domestic violence, 3) sexual abuse, 4) workplace violence and harassment, 5) structural oppression in the home, work and in the eyes of the law, 6) unequal access to healthcare (including being denied reproductive rights), 7) unequal access to education, 8) unequal status in the judicial system, 9) verbal harassment and systemic oppression by the White House, national Congressional and Florida state congressional agendas and 10) the consistent reduction of women and gender non-conforming groups to their body in mainstream media and advertising.

WE DEMAND safety in public, private and common spaces for people of ALL GENDERS.

WE MOURN for those amongst us, those who have come before us, and those who will come after us who are subject to violence, exploitation and marginalization merely for being who they are.

Together we can light up the night with our hope, our grief and our love.

Let the "Day Without A Woman" end by TAKING BACK THE NIGHT TOGETHER.

Some candles will be provided but candle donations will be very weill received. We encourage you all to wear RED for solidarity.

We invite local artists and musicians to take part in this showing of empathy for the oppressed and expression of hope and light for equality and justice, as music and art will add to the unity and power of our collective energy.
