Trump’s administration has begun an attack on marginalized and oppressed people across the broad spectrum of humanity. We are going to peacefully demonstrate on Saturday, February 11th, at 1030AM as an act of solidarity with those who have been impacted.
In his first month in office, Trump has issued executive orders and proposed nominees which stand against fundamental human rights including a Muslim Ban, reallocating federal resources to start construction of a wall with Mexico, and restarting an attack on Oceti Sakowin land for the Dakota Access Pipeline. We have already heard and seen proposals for executive orders which would grant so-called “religious liberty” to discriminate against LGBTQ people and target those seeking abortions and other family planning services. In addition, it is clear there is speculation on national Right to Work legislation destroying our already-under-attack unions.
Let’s be clear when Trump banned Muslim people and tore apart families, he also tore apart LGBTQ families. When Trump attacks our indigenous brothers and sisters and pollutes their water, Trump is attacking LGBTQ indigenous people and polluting water used by LGBTQ people. When Trump attacks unions, he is attacking LGBTQ workers. Let us show our support for our fellow communities and rekindle the spirit of solidarity. An injury to one is an injury to all; Resist Trump!
We agreed on this date and time in order to meet up with and support action against DAPL. We understand that there is a protest at Planned Parenthood in Kent at the same time and we support those efforts with our feet and voices at Cal Anderson Park. In order to avoid additional confusion or conflicts, and to create maximum impact with co-occuring and unified protests around the city the current date and time will stand.
