In the 1930’s, Jewish refugees were turned away from these shores in their greatest hour of need. Our community must stand up for refugees, and not allow history to repeat itself.
HIAS, the refugee agency of the Jewish community, is organizing actions across the country on February 12 to demand that America's doors are reopened to refugees fleeing violence and persecution. Come raise up your voice to protect the Statue of Liberty and all that she stands for and recognize the many people whose lives are at risk if they are unable to find safety here in this country.
We will Gather with Project Worthmore, an organization that is located in Mango House, a building devoted to refugee services in Denver. Over the past two weeks, these organizations have received threats of violence.
This action will offer an opportunity to learn more more about the amazing work of Project Worthmore and Mango House and find out what you can do to help, hear about what it is like to be a refugee in Denver, hear from a local representative, and show your solidarity with refugees in Denver. We will also offer silent prayer and blast a shofar as a wakeup call and a call to action. After the action, those who are interested are invited on a tour of Mango House.
